The SmartWeld+ and SmartCut+ Application Packages integrate smoothly with Coherent StarFiber products and significantly extend their capabilities. They comprise of a processing head, containing fixed beam delivery optics and a galvanometer scanning module, together with sophisticated software for producing a variety of pre-programmed patterns. These smart patterns move well beyond traditional beam wobble to encompass spirals, ellipses and other complex shapes. Furthermore, with SmartWeld+ the pattern size and orientation can be controlled to follow part contours and achieve constant weld quality and seam dimensions.

Application Packages for Laser Welding and Cutting

The SmartWeld+ Application Package delivers dramatically improved results, particularly when welding dissimilar or challenging materials, such as aluminum, stainless steel, and copper. It combines the benefits of a precision processing head with the flexibility of a scanner. It produces an improved metallurgical bond and more consistent results through better blending of the melt pool. With highly reflective or volatile materials, it increases process stability and reduces spatter, porosity, and cracking. This makes it ideally suited for applications in e-mobility and consumer electronics.

The SmartCut+ Application Package delivers dramatically improved results when cutting or trepanning microcontours in metal. It combines the benefits of a precision processing head with the flexibility of a scanner. It allows cutting complex microstructures with reduced taper and at high speed, particularly when integrated on-the-fly. This makes it a cost-effective solution which delivers reduced cycle times and which is also more economical compared to pico-second laser-based solutions. This makes it ideally suited for applications in consumer electronics, medical products, and watchmaking.
